An extended power outage for the area due to heavy snow causing a tree to fall on a power line took my weather station offline early this Sunday morning. This afternoon, a borrowed generator got my computer back up and running.
Well, it was a good run. My old patched together system finally was singing its swan song the other day. Well, it was more of a WHIRRRR WHIRRRR as the CPU fan was giving out. Finally my wife could stand the noise no longer! Later, little buddy. I deftly installed the software on my alteranate computer and got it up and running with little trouble.
A very blustery storm blew in this morning and tweaked the power on/off for a while. Took me some time to get around to rebooting the computer and to locate my UPS to finally fix this problem for good. Down for about eight hours today. Let's hope this doesn't happen too often anymore!
A breezy storm blew in this morning, probably some slipstream coming off of Santa's sleigh, and browned out the power. Of course, my weather station computer is not yet on a UPS so I was down for an hour or so this AM. Merry Christmas!
I dunno what happened or when it did, but I found my computer rebooted after it had been down for about 2 days. Back online now.
A nice breezy, rainy, hail-ey storm came through and knocked my computer offline all day. A simple reboot and it is back online. I need to really put it on a UPS backup so this will happen less often.
A little power glitch and the computer was offline all day. I knew I should have checked it when the lights dimmed. I didn't check the computer until Sunday, so about 24hrs was lost.
OK! Who's been fooling around with my weather station? ;) Apparently the weather station computer decided to reboot itself so the weather collection was down for approximately four hours this evening.
Both today and yesterday, a large wind gust knocked over my temporary rain gauge installation causing it to falsely record precipitation. All rain accumulations for today and yesterday are bogus. I will look into removing those values from the database just as soon as I'm done playing around with my PSP!
A short Power Failure ocurred at 4pm. The computer was offline for a short period while I was serching for the right breaker to turn off for a home project.
Well, the Puget Sound area finally got some much needed rain today. But, according to the rain rate on my weather station, it never rained. Fortunately it did note that there was some rainfall, but it just apparently couldn't tell at what rate it was falling. The problem is being looked into and possibly the weather station or the computer will be restarted to attempt to remedy the problem.
In an effort to decrease the number of uploads made to the website by the Weather Station software, uploads at the bottom of the hour will only be made from 6:30am to 6:30pm Pacific Time, two fewer than previously being uploaded.
The CrimsonWrath . com Weather web page has undergone some changes today.
First, you're reading the first change, a news section! This news will be updated with known down time information and other service interruption bulletins. Additionally feature additions or changes will be noted here as well.
Secondly, a Status indicator has been added for each of the visible sections above that contain data (images or XML) that is updated on a regular interval. Unfortunately, due to Internet conditions and reliability of my home computer and my ISP, not all the images are uploaded 100% of the time. In an effort to identify what data is LIVE and what data is old, I've added a small dot to the left of each visible section. The dot is green or blue for recent data and yellow or red for old data. You can also hover your mouse over the dot to receive more information about the data's age. This should help indicate what is fresh and what is old.
Lastly, since there are a lot of images to download on this web page, some code has been added to download the files dynamically as they are displayed. Hopefully that makes the web page faster to load.
Enjoy!
I currently have an Oregon Scientific WMR-968 Weather Station with anemometer, thermo-hygrometer, and rain gauge connected to my home Windows XP Professional computer with Ambient's Virtual Weather Station software preparing the images and data seen above. Data uploads are every hour on the hour with an additional upload occurring at the bottom of the hour from 6:30am to 6:30pm Pacific Time. Weather forecasts are estimated by the weather station based upon current pressure trends and temperature observations. The data provided on this page is for personal entertainment only and should not be used to make weather-related decisions.
