What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache. For more information, visit the Official Geocaching Website.

Signature Item Tracking

CrimsonWrath Glow-In-The-Dark TokenTrack my Signature items in the CrimsonWrath Signature Item Tracking forum! Each signature item that I release into the wild can be found in this forum. CrimsonWrath's Geocaching Mandate

I, CrimsonWrath, pledge to:
  • CITO whenever possible during cache trips or maintenance visits.
  • Respect the environment.
  • Interact online in the Geocaching Forums.
  • Make visually appealing cache pages.
  • Strive to make each cache unique.
  • Obey all local laws concerning park usage.
  • Never place a micro where a traditional could be placed.
  • Wear my Geocaching hat during treks.
  • Remember to leave each cache better than when I found it.
  • Announce on FRS channel 2 when I'm caching.
  • TNLN? Never, unless it is a micro!
  • Help Travel Bugs on their journies.

ROT Translator

A popular feature on Geocaching pages is a way to simply encrypt page content for casual security. Meant to be decrypted easily away from a computer, this translation technique generally relies on basic ABC knowledge. Check out my version of the ROT Translator and be sure to check out my spin on this technique!

CrimsonWrath's Geocaching Story

I first started getting into Geocaching when I heard about it from a family member. I was instantly hooked. I already had a GPSr and now I had found a way to really put it to some use! I had used it when travelling or if I was headed to a business meeting and didn't know where I was going. My favorite usage was to landmark the tulip fields at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.

My first trek out to find a cache didn't quite work. I had the coordinates, but the tree cover kept me from finding the cache. Eventually I returned later and found the cache, but it was quite small and there was plenty of "garbage" in it. Fortunately, I wasn't in this for the treasure. I was in it for the thrill of the hunt.

I began to enjoy finding caches in places that I had always been and never knew there were any there. It was also a great reason to go explore places I never knew existed. Now, whenever I have to go anywhere, I'm checking to see if there are any caches in the area that I can visit (assuming I can break away from the real purpose of the trip!).

In a short time, I had put together my own cache and placed it into the wild. What a curious feeling. I'm hiding this box in the woods and I actually expect that people out there will be finding it, being led by this digital divining rod.
